Categorical Board Filters

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Post 1 by Wraith (Prince of Chaos) on Sunday, 27-Apr-2008 17:03:34

When viewing "Topics with new posts", "Latest topics", "Most popular current topics", "Most posted to topics", and "Unanswered topics",, it'd be nice if we could filter out categories which do not interest us. I, for example, like to check for topics with new posts, but find myself less than enthusiastic about tabbing through all the Game Parlor items.
It'd be nice if, in our account, we could get a list of check boxes to let us toggle the filtering of each of the major board categories (some people may not care to see Grub garage material, for example).

I like this idea and would like to see it implemented.

Post 3 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Sunday, 27-Apr-2008 22:04:46

Me too. Games are fun, but I don't enjoy arrowing through them just to get to some real conversation. This filtering idea would make our perusal of the boards go a lot faster.

Post 4 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Sunday, 27-Apr-2008 22:06:37

fantastic idea! Please implement this one. I like the topics with new posts setting cause they show topics in the order that the newest post was made, as opposed to the latist topics filter which shows the topics by the date they were first created, which makes finding the newest posts a little more time consuming. I hate wading through all the game parlor topics on the topics with new posts pages to get to the stuff I want to read. a category filter would be fabulous!

awsome idea!. and i see what you mean, all the games are always at the top. it's anoying

Post 6 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Monday, 28-Apr-2008 8:15:23

I think I remember a similar topic about this, just saying. *smile* Anyway, just writing here to say I like this idea as well.

Post 7 by frequency (the music man) on Monday, 28-Apr-2008 10:13:45

Yeah. I love this idea as well.

Post 8 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Monday, 28-Apr-2008 16:18:16

Once again, a very useful idea Kai.

Post 9 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Tuesday, 29-Apr-2008 13:27:54

Also like the idea.

Post 10 by rat (star trek rules!) on Wednesday, 30-Apr-2008 14:55:24

so do i, very nice idea there

Post 11 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Sunday, 01-Jun-2008 7:24:20

so, wonder if it's going to be implimented?

Post 12 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:18:23

I'm bringing this topic back to the top. Maybe we can get some more interest shown and jj or chris make it happen.
It is getting worse. there are people who do nothing but play the games on the boards. 90 percent of the first page of topics with new posts is nothing but game parlor.
i'd like to make an a to z of game parlor games. I'm sure they could go on for months with all the games that have been created.
seriously it's january and yesterday the a to z christmas was close to the top.
please please please make board filters.

Post 13 by Ukulele<3 (Try me... You know you want to.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:21:55

Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please make board filters! Please please please please please please! :p

Post 14 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:25:37

I spoke to J about this recently in a private qn. He seemed enthusiastic about the idea and wasn't sure why it hadn't been sorted before. I like many find the way I read the boards annoying right now as everything is either games or jokes. I don't really wish to read either, so would love to be able to hide them.
J, we blieve you're busy, and have great intentions, so please come make us happy zoners.

Post 15 by Eponine (If you find a rare Gem, hold it tightly!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:29:26

I agree with you guys, isn't there a way to make some sort of favorites for boards, or something?

Post 16 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 12:30:09

funnily enough Pipi, one of the games on game parlor is exactly what you suggested I believe.

But yes, I too shall add my voice to the calls for category filtering. I always check topics with new posts and it is highly irritating to have to wade through all that game parlor stuff. I don't, you understand mind that others play and enjoy them, I just wish there was a way that I personally didn't have to be subjected to them everytime I checked the boards.

Post 17 by rat (star trek rules!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 13:55:10

yeah, it seems that ever since the games parlor board was created it has taken over th e boards pretty much. filtering as i said before would help, but how about moving the games parlor to it's own section of the site? that way the people who wanted to play them could and those who didn't want to deal with them wouldn't have to go to that page. i'm not sure how that would work, but it's another idea

Post 18 by andrew1989 (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 14:29:08

Hey, Totally agree with post 17. Why not have it separately, under games, and not have it as part of the boards. I love playing some of the games in there, but I don't like seeing them when i'm going through latest topics and such.

Post 19 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 14:31:33

And I will bring it under the attention of the admins again, right away

Post 20 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 18:02:51

I guess it could replace the quiz system that is outdated and means little or nothing any more, but there are other things I want to hide like jokes, and religious topics.

Post 21 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 18:38:39

I was just thinking of creating this topic just this morning. Please impliment it, I like the idea of having checkboxes under account settings where we can check the topics which we would like to hide.

Post 22 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 19:40:52

I like this. I think it would be something that could be done under your account settings or something. Now for the big question: can it be coded?

Post 23 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 19:52:58

Oh man I hate tabbing through all the games as well. So I love this idea.

Post 24 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 20:46:57

I like the idea, as long as it's something that is in account settings, like they said before! I personally like playing the games on here, and I dont see why it should be separate, but being able to have account checkboxes where you can choose whether or not to view certain topics would be useful!

Post 25 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 21:35:40

I love this idea. I'm so sick of having to arrow down through all the games!!!

Post 26 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 22:19:01

i don't think the games need to be separated. and like kevin said, there are more than just the games that i would like to skp. plus everyone has different interests, so having the check boxes would be the best idea i think.

Post 27 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 22:24:01

Occasionally I find a subject line that sounds interesting in a category I wouldn't normally read. So most of the time I don't find arrowing down all that much of a bother.

Post 28 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 3:28:13

Becky, take a look at the page of new posts now. lets see, game game game game game rant game game game game game game game lets talk game game (wow, all by rachel), suggestion, writers, game game...ok i'm done now.

Post 29 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 3:53:38

LOL, I know what you mean about the games. I'm not against the idea of what Kai is suggesting, and I might even use that feature at times, but most of the time I don't mind arrowing down. But yeah, the games need to die.

Post 30 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 4:03:15

OK, I just went to the top and read Kai's original suggestion and all the replies. I guess I should have done that to begin with, huh? Anyway, the more I think about this, the more I agree.

And while we're at it, how about making a separate category for all those annoying surveys that certain people like to start and then let me choose to ignore that category. LOL

Post 31 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 10:48:31

As others have said, I'm not against the idea of moving Game parlor all together, however that isn't the only board that would be ignored so some kind of system for this would be hugely appreciated. The joke board is another that would go, why people insist on posting "LOL" is quite beyond me. All that does is bring the joke back to the top of the topics with new posts list and all for the sake of three letters expressing the fact that you are laughing at something that was designed to be laughed at anyway, so no need to advertize the fact.

Dan.

Post 32 by Izzito (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 11:17:34

I think now more than ever this feature would be soooo nice people and creating pointless games. Hehe

Post 33 by SEPTEMBER-TWILIGHT (CAN I TALK? PLEASE?) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 11:18:41

omg, roflmao to becky's and dan's post, hahahahha. I really like this idea too. The game parlor thingy is just so annoying

Post 34 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 12:07:09

I also want a catagory creating for self harmers, so I don't have to be angered and irritated by those who stupidly attention seak, since I would be able to ignore it. lol

Post 35 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Wednesday, 28-Jan-2009 12:08:12

JJ? Chris? Please? ASAP?

Post 36 by Stevo (The Established Ass) on Monday, 11-May-2009 4:35:38

I know this is an old topic, but the introduction of a whole lot of new games in the game parler made me think of it again. Please, can we do something about this some day soon? hmm?

Post 37 by illumination (Darkness is history.) on Monday, 11-May-2009 14:21:51

So is this ever going to be implemented, or do we have to wait a million years for someone to do something about this?

Post 38 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 12-May-2009 12:32:00

lol a million years?. i'm sure someone will read this soon enough

Post 39 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Thursday, 14-May-2009 22:20:34

I think this is a wonderful idea because I don't like wading through the games either.
